I cannot say enough for how helpful this book has been. I have my third Fuji camera (XT2). I found his guides so helpful in the past that I got on Kindle and bought this XT2 manual the day I walked in with the camera still in the bag from the store. He calls them tips, but they are much more than that. I walk through all of his suggestions, camera in hand, and set my settings, learn the new modes, etc. my only criticism is the lack of pictures of the dials, menus, etc. but his explanations gets you to where you want to go. It is worth every penny!
I’m a longtime professional photographer who’s used digital SLRs for years but recently switched to the Fuji X mirrorless system. I just recently bought my X-T2.This book is well organized and well written in clear, easy to understand language. (I did try to overlook the numerous grammatical errors.) There are lots of tips and tricks and other information in it that could be useful to beginning and intermediate photographers. It’s a very pleasant, easy read. For all those reasons, I have given it four stars.That said, for me, an experienced digital photographer but with little mirrorless experience, there was a very limited amount of useful information. I can honestly say I had only two or three “aha†moments while reading this book. I had already discovered most of these “tips†by exploring the menus and experimenting with the camera for the month I’ve owned it and by watching some excellent YouTube videos. That’s fun for me and the way I best learn and retain new information. But I realize that not everyone learns the same way. So if you enjoy learning from a book, and you’re not an advanced photographer, this book may be perfect for you.
As always an excellent X-T2 guide! I have the Xpro1, and the X-T1 guides by the same author and they really, really provide some excellent tips! Here I think I know stuff, and Rico comes along and surprises me.If I purchase ANY Fuji camera, and Rico has a book on it: I buy it. Period. I will say a lot of the information inside is found in the user manual, but the manual(s) are not very well written whereas Rico writes clearly, concisely, and tells you WHY you need, or don't need a menu feature on or off.
Excellant book. I would say it is aimed at the serious amateur or pro photog. It explains more thoroughly the functions of the camera. The X-T2 is a sophisticated camera and more explanation is needed than provided in the manual. No need to go in sequence with this manual. I just pick it up and flip to something that peaks my interest and start reading and experimenting with the camera. It is camera centric. You wont find sections on how to compose good images, it assimes you can already do that. It is a technical manual. It also provides suggested settings with good explanations. Everyone needs this book
I read the manual and watched countless videos about the XT-2 before buying this as an after thought. Glad I did. He does a great job of presenting the material in digestible chunks of information (tips) which cover all of the functions and options available. He includes suggestions of which options he prefers and how to customize your camera to optimize your expiration with it.I bought the Kindle version which worked well and was handy to have in a digital format.
These books by Rico Pfirstinger really allow a user new to the Fuji X system cameras to understand their specific camera and all of its amazing capabilities. After reading this book on the X-T2 and practicing with the camera while doing the reading, it became clear to me that some of the reviewers for this camera, even the very positive reviews, didn't really get all the features and capabilities of this camera. With this book, the camera can become a fully realized photographic tool. I would consider it essential reading for almost any user - even a pro coming from a different system.
This camera so far exceeds my own capabilities that it’s almost frightening. Like a bush pilot accustomed to a Cessna pup strapping into an FA-18 hornet about to launch off an aircraft carrier! “Huh? What page does that thruster show up on the users manual?!?â€Thus it’s nice to have insights from more experienced camera jockeys on how to use it as well as how to (generally) be a better photographer.The author's biases are his own, and my own trials and errors may lead me elsewhere once I have my feet underneath me with the equipment. But at least you have someone with a distinct and experienced points of view giving up his two cents.This handy book should be considered as a supplement to the manual that comes with the camera, and not a replacement. In fact one of the first tips offered is to RTFM (no further explanation necessary, I hope!). I use both. They’re getting me over the hump on the basics and the rest is out on my own.Highly recommended, and very cheap given the comparative expense in time and money required to get the Fuji equipment.
The book contains helpful information, but a lot of it is now out of date or inaccurate because the book is based on ver 2 firmware and the camera is now up to version 4.2! Menu items have moved or changed and I spent a lot of time trying to apply “tips†that were no longer in the menu location listed in the book. Is is a shame that the author doesn’t update it
